Listen to the Longing

Ever wake up and feel like you’re in someone else’s life?

Usually it’s on about Day 8 of working 10 hour days- fueled by trail mix, coffee &

Bleary eyed spreadsheet math.

OR

The bone-tired weariness that comes with the 300 emails before 8 am,

Apologizing to your spouse AGAIN for checking your phone during dinner

And hiding in the closet for conference calls.

It’s not that you’re afraid of hard work-

It’s the DISCONNECTION that’s sucking the joy out of the room.

You’d give ANYTHING to feel ALIVE again.

You’d LOVE to work HARD on something that MATTERED even a little bit.

You’d LOVE to feel that good kind of tired that comes with creating something beautiful- even if it’s just planting flowers along the mailbox in the front yard.

That’s what’s missing right now

In these days of sameness topped with a haze of uncertainty.

It’s that sense of being full-out PLUGGED IN to the life you meant to live.

The antidote to these groundhog days is as close as your heartbeat.

It’s in the listening to that drumbeat of “What do you really want?”

Not ignoring the call of your longing but grabbing onto it for dear life-

Your own dear life.

Go walk in the crisp morning air, dear one. The phone call can wait.

Play in the leaves with the kids and

make a snowman.

Go outside.

Pull the glitter out of the art project drawer.

Listen to the longing.
